Mengele was born in Günzburg, Bavaria, eldest of three sons of Karl Mengele a well-to-do
industrialist, and his wife Walburga Hupfauer. After leaving high school he studied medicine and anthropology at the university
of munich, earning a doctorate in anthropology. After college he applied for a Nazi party membership and joined
the SS. He was placed in the medical corps. He rose through the ranks of the german military and became a decorated officer
gaining first and second class iron cross, the wound badge and the eastern fron metal.
In 1943 he replaced another doctor who had fallen ill at the Nazi extermination
camp Birkenau. On May 24, 1943, he became medical officer of Auschwitz-Birkenau's "Gypsy camp". He was then made the cheif
medical officer of the main infirmary at Birkenau. It was during this 21 month stay at Auschwitz that he gained his nickname
"Angel of Death" because he chose wether the new inmates would be killed or made into laborers. His later experiments
on inmates would only reassure his nickname.
He used Auschwitz as a chance to continue his research on heredity, using inmates
as human experiments. He gained a special interest in twins, who would be taken and put in a special barracks. He also
studied a disease called Noma, that was found in children in his gypsy camp. Mengele tried to prove that the disease was caused
by racial inferiority. Mengele took an interest in physical abnormalities discovered among the arrivals at the
concentration camp. This included dwarves, notably the Ovitz family, a Jewish Romanian artist's family, seven of whose ten
members were dwarves. Mengele did horific experiments including injecting chemical into childrens eyes to try to change eye
color. He also did various amputation of limbs and brutal surgeries. He would alos experiment on chosen girls, performing
sterilazation and shock treatments. Most of the patients died either due to the experiment or later complications.
I do think that these stories of Mengeles experiments are fact
and not myth. after reading of all the sick things that happened during the Holocaust it would not surprise me that a
pyscopath like Mengele was capable of this. From the information i have gathered i have come to the conclusion that Mengele
changed his name after the war and moved to Argentina. He later moved to Brazil. It was here that he deservingly drowned.
This was proved from DNA testing of is remains.
